About International Dog Training School

International Dog Training School has been operating on the Gold Coast for over 25 years and is committed to promoting responsible dog ownership through practical, ethical, and effective training.

Why is it called International?
You might wonder where the name International Dog Training School comes from. Over the years, our school has welcomed dogs and handlers from many backgrounds and cultures, and has been influenced by a wide range of training styles and ideas which included a japaneese speaking training class. The name reflects that openness a place where learning, understanding, and good training principles come together, regardless of where you or your dog come from.

Today, the school is led by Missy and Paula, who together bring over 30 years of combined experience in dog training, behaviour, and education. Their shared focus has always been on supporting dogs and their people with training that is calm, clear, and suited to real life.

International Dog Training School is known for its grounded approach , focusing on understanding, consistency, and trust rather than trends or quick fixes. Over the years, the school has supported thousands of families and has become a trusted part of the local dog community.

Our Experience

Paula brings extensive experience in therapy dog training and working with reactive and sensitive dogs, supporting families who need thoughtful, patient, and ethical behaviour support.

Missy brings over 16 years of hands-on experience, with a strong focus on practical, real-world training that helps everyday families build communication, confidence, and lasting relationships with their dogs.

Together, Missy and Paula and the Interdogs team provide balanced training pathways that support dogs from foundational learning through to advanced training and behaviour work.

Contribution to the Local Dog Training Community

Over the years, Missy has also mentored and supported the development of a number of local trainers, sharing practical knowledge and real-world experience through International Dog Training School.

Many trainers in the region have spent time learning within the school at various stages of their journey, reflecting the depth of experience and strong foundations that have shaped the local dog training community.

Our Training Philosophy

We recognise that every dog is an individual. Our training is:

  • motivational and fair
  • adapted to suit each dog and handler
  • focused on long-term results, not quick fixes

We understand there are many ways to teach the same skill. Our priority is always finding what works best for you and your dog.

Progress is supported through graduations that help both dogs and handlers grow with clarity and confidence. After completing the Basic Mini Minors Course, handlers can explore a range of options to extend their dog’s skills, teamwork, and enrichment.
